Advancing the DOE\u2019s IRI Vision<\/h1>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n

ESnet has been a key driver of the DOE\u2019s Integrated Research Infrastructure (IRI) program since its inception, helping to realize its vision of seamlessly linking world-class research tools, facilities, and data resources to accelerate discovery. In 2024, ESnet staff played a central role on the IRI Leadership Team, co-chaired two of the three technical subcommittees, and contributed to important co-design, software development, and testbed initiatives.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

  • The Outreach and Engagement Technical Subcommittee, co-chaired by ESnet\u2019s Science Engagement Team, worked to connect IRI pathfinder science teams, identify common workflow requirements, and foster adoption of shared technologies. Highlights included leading the launch of the IRI website (iri.science) and coordinating a strong IRI presence at SC24, with DOE booth demos, panels, and Birds-of-a-Feather sessions.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  • The Interfaces Technical Subcommittee, also co-chaired by an ESnet staff member, advanced a standard facility-status API to support cross-facility workflows. In 2024, the group delivered a standardized information model, began defining API mechanics, and hosted a well-attended SC24 session on novel HPC interfaces.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  • ESnet Security staff also contributed to the TRUSTID Subcommittee, exploring federated authentication, unified login approaches, and streamlined access for DOE researchers across multiple facilities.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n

    In parallel, ESnet supported IRI-related research efforts through projects including GRETA, DELERIA, EJFAT, SENSE, and the IRI testbed. These efforts have continued into 2025, with ESnet maintaining a leadership role in shaping IRI\u2019s technical direction and enabling DOE\u2019s next-generation, cross-facility science.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n
